In line with highlighting and celebrating National Apprenticeship Week this week, I am pleased to share an Apprenticeship story from one of our own.
A big THANK YOU to Jonathan who has been kind enough to write about his experience and share a few photos.
Over to Jonathan to share his story……..
Name: Jonathan Railton
What is your current role?
Project / Central Functions Manager
What do you enjoy most about it?
The successful deployment of sites as a result of the correct and thorough planning. The teamwork/coordination to ensure all dependencies are met. The fast-paced nature of Telecoms deployment
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
On completion of my A-levels, my preference was to go to work and earn money as opposed to going to university. My racing is an expensive hobby, but this has always motivated me to go to work and give 100% every day.
Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to learn whilst you earn in the working environment picking up valuable experiences along the way.
What were the benefits?
Earning whilst you learn. Learning and gaining experience in the working environment is the best preparation for taking on a full-time role in a company.
The biggest benefit of my Apprenticeship was the opportunity to work in a variety of departments. This meant I was able to gain knowledge of all of the key’s roles within a business as well as find my preferred role which turned out to be Project Management.
Many companies still value experience very highly when selecting new employees. Apprenticeships enable you to have that experience.
Would you recommend it to others?
Yes. Definitely. Apprenticeships are a great opportunity to get a head start with your career.
How do you think apprenticeships can contribute to a company?
Apprenticeships are an opportunity for companies to develop talent within their organisation. A well-supported apprenticeship scheme can see apprentices develop from field-based/project coordination roles right through the Senior Management.
