A Fixed Line Network refers to wired networks used for voice and data communications, the Fixed Line Network can usually be finding a connection to another person at the end where the user is able to make phone calls and connect to the internet. Nearly every place in the UK has some form of a Fixed Line Network, it makes it a lot easier for businesses to be able to access the internet alongside making and receiving phone calls. The integration of the data and voice transmissions are beginning to open completely new possibilities, phones are now beginning to evolve as each year comes alongside being able to call people at the click of a button on a computer.

Optical Technology is everywhere all around you, from the barcode scanner at the supermarket to some of the technology in your car, we are surrounded by optical technologies in our day-to-day lives. Optical technology relates to light or vision which could be visual light or even infrared light. Optical Fibre is a type of wire that is made up of glass or plastic that carries light signals, an example of an Optical Device is a Optical storage device such as a DVD, CD or Blu-ray that uses a laser light to read the information on the disc and to then write new information to the disc for future retrieval.
