Optical Fibre Infrastructure

Optical technology refers to anything that is light or vision, this can be light that is visible or infrared. Optical fibre is a type of wiring that is commonly made from glass or plastic, this wiring will carry out the light signals- the optical fibre is as thin as human hair! Optical Technology is everywhere all around you, from the barcode scanner at the supermarket to some of the technology in your car, we are surrounded by optical technologies in our day-to-day lives.

Optical Fibres are mostly used to transmit light between two ends of the fibre, which then finds wide usage in fibre optics communications. The Optical Fibres will permit long transmissions along longer distances with a higher bandwidth as opposed to electrical cables which are slower, they are used to provide increased bandwidth which allows the fibres to be able to deliver fast data rates that stretches up to multiple gigabytes per second.

Optical fibres are made up of flexible and transparent fibres made up of glass that are then typically include a core that is surrounded by a transparent cladding material that has a lower index of refraction, this means that the light will travel faster.

If you have any queries about optical technology or anything in general about our services then please contact us by phone at +44 (0) 1480 274 189 or by email at info@iris-services.com, a member of our team will be more than happy to help you with any query.
